Issues putting together four good quarters of basketball continue to plague the Big Bay De Noc Black Bears boys into the New Year.

Coming in to Saturday’s match-up, the Bears suffered a 74-23 loss to Munising. The Emeralds, last week, came up short losing to Ishpeming 74-44.

It all played out Saturday with the Emeralds defeating the Bears 71-47 in Big Bay de Noc. The Bears opened the annual event trailing 17-3 at the end of the first quarter of play. After settling in, the Bears put 12 points up in the second, but couldn’t find a way to stop the Emeralds’ Kanton Lauzon, who had 12 points in the first half of play.

Lauzon finished the night with 21 points to lead all scorers. Alex LaLonde led the Bears with 20, and Kellen Thill finished with 15 points.

The Emeralds (3-5) game against Munising scheduled for Monday was postponed due to weather.

Tuesday Big Bay played host to Carney where the Wolves put on an ariel attack, scoring 45 of their 90 points from the three-point range.

Hitting five triples in the first quarter, Carney dropped six more in the second period to take a commanding 55-18 lead at the half on their way to a 90-36 win over the Bears, who fell to 0-8.
