Annual senior expo returns
This year, the event’s theme will be, “U.P. Seniors Got Talent!”
The convention is being cosponsored by UPCAP Services, Inc., the annual coordinator of the event, and Marquette General Health Systems.
The activities will include several informational exhibits, health screenings, raffles, “glamour shots”, bingo with cash prizes, and a silent auction. Exhibitors will provide free blood pressure checks, oxygen testing, and other health screening.
Information pertaining to all programs important to seniors will also be on hand. Flu and pneumonia vaccines will also be available this year for a fee, but Medicare will be billed for those covered by Medicare Part B.
People on Medicare who participate in the immunization clinic should bring Medicare cards.
The afternoon’s general session will feature Dr. William Hook addressing senior health, and Amy Racine, of the YMCA, teaching a senior zumba activity.
A U.P. Senior Talent Contest is also planned to showcase seniors with special talents. Anyone interested in performing at the convention should contact UPCAP for a registration form.
The best acts will win cash prizes up to $150. There will also be a costume contest for those who dress in their most glamorous attire – the first place winner will go home with $100.
The convention registration fee is $7 per person and will include information, activities, entertainment, and dinner.
The Ruth Butler Building is handicap accessible.
