Village artisan holiday auction set for Dec. 7
GARDEN – The third annual Village Artisan Holiday Silent Auction will be held at the Village Artisans in Garden on Dec. 7. Doors will open at 2:45 p.m.
Auction items will be on display for bidding from 3 – 4 p.m. Then, from 4 – 5 p.m. attendees are invited to a social hour while purchases are collected and made ready for payment and pickup.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the Village Artisans. Donations are accepted.

Radio show hosts see syndication of show
ESCANABA – Radio talk show hosts Devin Lawrence and Doug Sedenquist, hosts of “Mornings in Michigan with Devin and Doug” radio show replaced “Mornings in America with Bill Bennett” on Aug. 11.
The show airs on WAVC-FM 93.9 out of Mio, Mich. and WYPVFM 94.5 out of Mackinaw City.
The two stations cover all or parts of over 30 of Michigan’s 83 counties, and parts of Canada.
School retirees plan monthly meeting
MANISTIQUE – The first Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel’s meeting for 2013-14 will be held on Sept.11. The meeting will take place in the Manistique High School community room at 11:30 a.m.
The program addresses the issue of plants invading Lake Michigan and will be presented by Teri Grout, executive director of the Alger County Conservation District.
Lunch will be available.
Speaker to discuss Syria at local church
MANISTIQUE – A speaker outlining the current events in Syria will share his story on Friday at the Presbyterian Church in Manistique. Dr. Robert Worley, who lived more than 30 years in the Middle East, will share his view on Syria’s cultural history and religious partisan groups.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Worley began his international teaching in 1980 in the Near East School of Theology, continuing through the war years in Lebanon. He spent the majority of his time in the Middle East in Lebanon and Syria
He will cover both the historic and current issues facing Syria.
